Learn more about Oldham Insurance and owner, Scott Oldham’s background that sets him apart in serving you and your families insurance needs.

Life in Gallatin, TN

I’m a lifelong resident of Tennessee.   I was born, raised, and went to school in Gallatin.  I lived in Nashville several years but moved back to Gallatin in 2001.  I am married to a fellow Gallatin native, Stacy and we have two children, Bradley is 11 and Jordan who is 9.  We attend and are active at Freedom Church in Gallatin.  I have a passion for children and have coached basketball for 11 years, acting as the Director of the local Upward Basketball league in Gallatin for 6 years.

As a young man, I always dreamed of owning my own business.  I often envisioned myself owning a Hardware Store, Restaurant, or some type of retail business.  After high school, I attended the local community college, Volunteer State, and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business.  After college I worked in retail for a few years then found myself working in the Corporate office of the Murray Lawnmower & Bicycle company in Brentwood.

I started in Customer Service and over the next 17 years worked my way up the proverbial corporate ladder holding jobs as the Wal-Mart Account Manager, District Manager for several different territories and finally as the Manager of the Warranty Claims Department.  Everything was going great, then the economic downturn after 911 resulted in me getting laid off and eventually caused Murray to file bankruptcy.

After a few rounds of unemployment and filler jobs, I decided to get into insurance.  I first tried opening an agency with a nationally known name selling primarily Auto & Home insurance.  It did not go to well as operating costs exceeded my income so I closed it.  After another couple of stints of unemployment and working for another business that failed, I decided to give insurance another shot.

Eight Years of Insurance Experience

This time, learning from my prior experience in insurance, I decided to be independent, able to shop multiple companies to find the best products for my clients.  I also decided to work from a home office, saving myself $3,000/month in the costs of having an office.  Finally, I chose to focus on Medicare Advantage which at that time was becoming very popular.

That was in 2008.  I was fortunate in the first couple of years in that the companies I was affiliated with provided me plenty of leads.  However, that soon started to dissipate so I branched into Medicare Supplements, Long Term Care, & Annuities.  Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), I have also become active in the Health Insurance market.  I have now settled into those primary product lines.  While I do have a few other independent agents I work with, Oldham Insurance is a one man show, me.

In conclusion, remember that young man who dreamed of one day owning his own business?  I am now happy to say that that dream has come true!  My business is thriving & successful.  I hope that at some time I am able to serve you and your family.
